As a teacher, I rely heavily on empirically-supported methods, multifaceted opportunities for hands-on student engagement, and cultivating student self-efficacy. For instance, in a typical research methods class, I might lecture for 5-10 minutes, ask students to complete in-class quiz questions using their smartphones, assign a think-pair-share on a discussion topic, and then provide students with a worksheet to practice relevant methodological/statistical skills.
Since I began teaching at Hope College in Fall 2023, I have taught or plan to teach the following courses:
- Introduction to Psychology (PSY 100)
- Research Methods I (PSY 201)
- Research Methods II (PSY 202)
- Applied Research (PSY 360)
- Psychological Measurement and Testing (PSY 395)
